We had many competitors and found 3 strong women who took home the prizes. Meghan ‘YaYa’ Yaner won the $200 NOCO gas card for the adult division, Katherine Hudson won the Elmwood Village Shopping Spree for young adults and Sophia Goulah won the 12 and under division for an Ultra Hoops Birthday Party.
We had a lots of other participants and spectators there too! Adults, kids and the young at heart were hooping and learning lots of new skills. They were building hula hoop spaceships and making obstacle courses out of the hoops. Everyone got to make their very own hoop bead made from Ultra Hoop materials. They attached them to necklaces and were wearing them like the trendiest new hoop fashion. All made with their favorite colors!
The 3rd Hoopathon took place at the Elmwood Village Farmer’s Market during Kidfringement as part of the Buffalo Infringement Festival. We owe many thanks to our sponsors BlueCross BlueShield of WNY, NOCO, The UPS Store at University Plaza, JG Metal Designs and Shianne’s Wax Studio. We also owe some thanks to The Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival and The Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo in helping get the Hoopathon started.
The Hoopathon was also part of the interactive entertainment at Night Lights Music Festival. There was a variety of competitors including long haired hippy musicians, beautiful goddess fairies and a few younger folks too. The youngest little lady won! She hooped for 60 minutes then cliched her spot in a timed race around a mark for the victory!
The Hoopathon started as a way to bring people together, encourage them to be to be active and creative, all while raising money for a good cause. The inaugural Hoopathon was held at Campbell Student Union at Buffalo State College in 2014. Hundreds of hoopers came to play fun games and see amazing performances from local hoopers, dancers, and drummers. The money raised from participants was donated to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and we also gave 110 hoops to the Buffalo public schools in collaboration with The Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo. The second annual Hoopathon was part of The Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival and helped raise funds for the stewardship of the cherry trees in Delaware Park. The Hoopathon brings our community together and strengthens our circle of good neighbors.
Would you like to have the Hoopathon as part of your fundraiser? Its great to accompany a golf tournament, 5k or cycling event because hooping is low impact and everyone can do it! Call, text or email today to find out how The Hoopathon can make your event that much more successful!
